First and foremost are the communities of St. Charles County. These include St. Charles, St. Peters, O’Fallon, Dardenne Prairie, Lake Saint Louis, Wentzville, Cottleville, Weldon Spring, and New Melle.
We have great schools! There are five public school districts in St. Charles County – Francis Howell, St. Charles, Fort Zumwalt, Orchard Farm, and Wentzville. For higher education, we have Lindenwood University and St. Charles Community College. Both campuses are impressive. In fact, if you haven’t driven by the Lindenwood Campus in St. Charles recently, you’ll be amazed by the new facilities that have been built or are under construction. The St. Charles City-County Library is currently ranked third in the nation on Hennen’s Top Ten American Library rating scale in the 250,000 population category. Crime Rates – St. Charles County and it’s communities maintain low crime rates.
Transportation is better than you think! People many times have the impression of major traffic jams on the Blanchette Bridge when they think about St. Charles County. There’s no doubt that we have traffic – we’ve been one of the fastest growing counties in the US for over 25 years. I-70 and I-64/US40 (now no stoplights) continue to be major arteries into the county, but there have also been major new arteries added to ease traffic in and out of the county to include the addition of MO 370 in the north part of St. Charles City connecting into St. Peters and MO 364 (Page Avenue Extension) which leads right into the heart of the county. There are also major improvements on MO 94.
There are plenty of things to do and see – St. Charles has many great bike trails, highlighted by the KATY trail and connector trails. In fact, the KATY trail runs along the Missouri River for over 40 miles in St. Charles County! We have the River City Rascals, a semi-pro baseball team that is very family friendly. Main Street St. Charles is a wonderful place, with many great shops and restaurants in buildings that have been preserved and are on the National Register of Historic Places. The First Capitol of Missouri and the starting point for the Lewis and Clark expedition can also be found along the Main Street / Riverfront. St. Charles County has created several parks over the last decade too. There are now ten parks across the county offering a wide range of activities and services. We have two dog parks too!
In the southern part of St. Charles County along the Missouri River, there are several great wineries. In the northern part of St. Charles County, there is a thriving boating population that might surprise boaters who are new to the local scene, with numerous marinas, restaurants, and sand bars located along the Mississippi River.
Health Care options in St. Charles County are also very good, with Barnes Jewish St. Peters, St. Josephs SSM in St. Charles, Progress West in Weldon Spring, and St. Josephs West SSM in Lake St. Louis SSM. We have a top Cancer Center at Barnes Jewish St. Peters as well. Places to Work: Over the last 20 years or so, many companies have moved into St. Charles County. These include Enterprise Rent-A-Car, Mastercard, Verizon, Missouri Research Park, Boeing, and CITI Mortgage to name a few.
